How did Hand & Fable get started?

Around 2010, Will had a vague idea: he wanted to make a simple task that could only be accomplished with a significant amount of focus. But, he didn’t quite know what he wanted or where to start.

Years later with still no progress, he shared this vague idea with a metal worker, who suggested that he suggested he try to make it out of trash. It worked! With a prototype out of trash, he began to then determine how to make it out of wood.

Shortly after Will had finally finished his first game, he gifted one to a family. He was curious for how they’d react, but not for long! The family loved the game and told will that the kids would spend almost an hour playing it in their room!

During the Christmas of 2016, Will shared the game with his family, including his twin brother Wes. That year they played the game a lot, but noticed, that whenever someone didn’t success, the marble fell to the floor.

That next year in 2017, Will called Wes to help him brainstorm what the next game should be. After brainstormed a while, they decided to try and make a game in a bottle. Not only might it be decorative, but it would also help contain the game.

After hobbying back and forth, Will and Wes came up with a few games that they shared with family and friends. After being urged to start selling them, they created an Etsy shop in 2018.

During the fall of 2018, the twins were invited to exhibit in downtown Nashville. Being the only twin in Nashville, Wes exhibited on behalf of them both and continued to exhibit at various events until Will moved to Nashville in 2020.

With Will and Wes in the same city, they decided to make a company to share their decorative play with others.

How do I unstick a ball in one of the games?

Most of the time, a simple jostle releases a ball from a jam – a firm tap shouldn’t harm the game. If the ball remains stuck, then please contact us for assistance.

One known issue occurs in the first version of the coil – the one with a domed bottom. When stored in the bottle for a long period of time, the wooden ball can have a tendency to get stuck at the bottom.

To prevent this, store the ball on the outside hold, and only put the ball in the bottle when being played.
